"Who's honking?" asked Herrie. We had been on the property for less than ten minutes before a truck pulled up behind Herrie's SUV and honked to get our attention. We hadn't expected anyone to pull in behind us, as it wasn't really a driveway and there wasn't anything around for a mile in either direction. "Oh shit," was our collective sentiment. It was obviously the owner of the property. Luckily he was nice enough to let us leave without calling the cops and he even told us he would let us come back and take pictures as long as we signed a release form first. Apparently someone had snuck in to take pictures before and fallen through the floor, and then sued him for $10,000. He had to leave, though, so we decided to come back on Saturday instead.
Herrie drove us back to Davis in her SUV with its smell of sweaty lemons (her parents had recenlty installed a horrible-smelling air freshener in the shape of a bunny that releases a putrid stink akin to rotting flesh mixed with lemons and bodily fluids) and for lack of a better thing to do, we briefly attended the 3rd & B Teen Center (a place I have carefully avoided in my 4 years of living here) high school concert. It was pretty lame, but Levi and Rob's new band "Lamo" was alright. We went to Woodland at 9:00 for a Beta Blocker (a.k.a. Ruction-- I hate the new name... sounds too much like The Beta Band and Ruction was a good name) show that we had only found out about a few hours before. It was at this crazy enormous Mexican bar that could have held about 300 people but the four of us and the two bands were the only ones there other than a few regulars sipping drinks in the back. It was a wild and fun experience, though, and I can't wait for a big show at that venue... so everyone come to the Beta Blocker show there this weekend! Check

After "Beta Blocker" was done their set, the seven of us went off into this little alcove with purple lighting that I adored to no end while the second band set up to preform for us and two girls who I assume were band members' girlfriends.

The next day Herrie and Yan came over to watch the Cannes closing ceremony and then we headed back out to the country to take more pictures of the house.

In case you were wondering, this is the randomly placed roof on the ground that is also pictured above... I have no idea how it got there or what its purpose is, but it's pretty cool. It reminds me of that shot in My Own Private Idaho where the barn falls out of the sky and crashes onto the ground.

There were heaps of junk all over the yard like this... This looks like some sort of industrial refrigerator. There was also what appeared to be a mangled steel boat and scattered engine parts.

Not quite

This is an old-school Star Wars card (Carrie Fisher) that was lyring around, amongst the rest of the assorted debris, which included Legos, an early 90s Band-Aid tin, an Old Navy bag from the late 90s, Starbucks containers and an old bike seat.

We carefully descended some rickety stairs into what used to be a small basement, almost reaching the bottom before noticing the last three or four steps were missing. Yan and I jumped down to see if there was anything interesting

while Herrie stayed behind and watched from the landing.

After a brief inspection of the cellar's floor, Yan noticed some scattered animal bones and picked one up for inspection. After a minute I realized what animal the bones had originated from:

A bunny. It freaked me out when I first saw it, and it's still pretty rancid... it was curled up in a fetal position with its fur yellowing in a pile around its corpse. There were a couple others throughout the room, and we figured they had jumped through the window and starved to death when they couldn't get back out (due to the missing steps).

Yan making his way up to the second floor on the decayed multi-layered carpet that covered the stairs.

The second floor.

There were several spots on the second floor (which otherwise had an almost completely bare floor, in contrast to the junk-ridden first floor) where wax had been spilled. We guessed that local kids had come up here for seances at some point.

A hole in the floor.

The first floor's back room where the stairs are located.

Back in Davis, Herrie and I decided to find Sabrina's costume party while Yan went to eat dinner with his mother. When we arrived at her house, there was no one to greet us save the voice of Phil Collins eminating from somewhere within the house. After wandering around downtown for a bit we found the party asking random people on the street how they interpreted

this painting, which Sabrina had acquired at a garage sale some time ago and many people had wondered the meaning of as they hung out in her basement, where it can most often be found.

Ben wearing the painting around his neck inside Blockbuster.

The party returned to Sabrina's house (and Yan Yan joined us, finished with his meal), where we watched Them!, a campy B-movie about radiocative ants from 1954. I also became the undisputed Ro Sham Bo tournament winner, despite not directly participating in the tournament. Is there no one else?
