64 pictures of an abandoned building

Yesterday I explored an incredibly large abandoned factory. I was joined by my usual exploration partner, Bob, as well as a new friend, David, from school, who I'd two days prior overheard discussing his recent exploration of an abandoned mine. There were two security guards-- a creepy older gent with circular John Lennon sunglasses, and an insanely buff young fellow doing push-ups on his knucles. Despite their intimidating appearances, these guards never once left their posts, manning a black lexus each, parked in distant corners of the complex. Certain rooms smelled like cookies. Certain rooms smelled like shit. Beautiful endless rooftops were abound, and plentiful staircases led to ever-higher floors. Mysterious objects were scattered everywhere, and we ran into a couple of mangy cable thieves, exchanging a polite chat before continuing on our ways, undisturbed. Porno magazines were discovered in gigantic mettalic structures on rooftops, and year-old croissants were rotting in fourth-floor offices. Squatters had shat in showers, and John Wayne was waiting for us on the inside of a locker in the darkest, most silent locker room I've ever seen. Enough jibber jabber, here are some of the pictures.

This is where your box of Ritz Crackers might have rolled down five years ago. Now perhaps they come from the Philippines?

The inside of the flour mill.

The cable thieves.

More like Mocha 'n' Chocolate Creme Double Delight Oreo. Actually, not like that at all, thank God. I never eat Oreo pie from Bakers Square anymore. It gave me explosive diarrhea. Twice.

Oreo pie cake runs on my BIRTHDAY.
We should write Bakers Square an angry letter.

OMG you were a victim of the Oreo pie cake too?! I smell a class action lawsuit! Or is that just the smell of my soiled briefs? :P

That looks like a lot of fun.

Wonder why Nabisco left... Even our crackers are made in foreign lands??

I don't know, but a google search found me several other Nabisco factories around the U.S. that have closed shop in the last ten years. Curiouser and curiouser!

hey, nice photos man. I really like the shots with this orange sort of light. There's an abandoned places community on LJ you should check out, perhaps you could post this there as well. I don't know if you saw (or remember) my photos from the end of last semester (mounted on a faded green car door) but those were of an amazing abandoned factory that you should totally check out when you get the chance. And there's a nice big hole in the fence, so it aint hard to get through. It's been sitting there for over thirty years. It's an old oil refinery that they had to close down due to air polution. The address is:

4777 Crooked Palm Road
Ventura, California

sorry, not sure of zip code. But it's well worth the hour drive from Valencia.

Thanks :) I usually post stuff like this on the Urban Decay community, but I'll check that one out too. I don't think I saw your photos last semester, but I'd be interested to see 'em. That factory also sounds enticing... maybe you can play tour guide and join our band of merry bandits.

here's a link to four of them, though I took loads more:

and yeah, I'd be more than happy to give you a tour of the crooked palm place or join ya on any industrial adventures in the future. Those are my favorite places to explore. These huge industries that leave heaping metal forms behind to rot, it's just incredible...

It's not literally abandoned... like, somebody still owns the property and it is on the market, but it has been empty for a great deal of time. It's only figuratively abandoned!

Sure, where would you like me to ship it too? I'm imagining you in a white lab coat with protective plastic work glasses standing in front of that machine looking very serious as you press a meaningless series of buttons with extreme concentration.

That reminds me of these photos someone in Japan posted of an abandoned amusement part there, maybe some of the most beauitful urban exploration photos I've ever seen... all sorts of florae were growing over the ferris wheel and rides, and of course the theme park was incredibly cool of its own accord because A) the design/decor was from the 70s and B) it was Japanese, adding up to an insanely high level of beauty.

You should get a chance to play the game condemned. The setting is all in urban innercity buildings with squatters, drug addicts and criminals going crazy and trying to kill you. I beat it last night and i guess thats why this made me think so much more about it.
I wanna go to a place like that soon
